Uncle Seth - You Don't Need An Ipod (PMN)

Tara of the Toronto band Uncle Seth wrote me to tell me about their new song "To Be An Angel" which was recently premiered on CBC Radio One. They are a band that has acheived some of their success due to embracing podcasting. I first heard of them on CC Chapman's Accident Hash podcast and featured one of theier song in an early experimental podcast of Christmas music. So they're giving podcaster an advance on the song before it's released to Itunes. Hope you like it!

I've wanted to put the Lowertown Trio in a podcast for a long time and I finally got out to record a show this summer at Gonzo's in Lockport. They gave me a great interview, which I'll play here. We were standing on the walkway outside the club which overlooks the historic Lockport Locks in the Erie Canal.

Jason and Chris VanCleve has both toured with the Psychobilly band The Quakes and talked quite a bit about touring and seeing the world as "Rock Stars." Turns out to be not as glamorous as you'd think.

Unfortunately, I only have two original songs from them. They play a lot of great interpretations of rockabilly standards and I wish I could play more.

I met the Lincolns' Shootin' Fools a the Mohawk Place just this last week and since I had been sitting on the Lowertown Trio material, I thought they'd be a good fit together and let me get the LT3 out in a podcast. They're similar styles, though not exactly the same. But this was one where again they gave me a pretty good interview and some decent recordings.

I'm going to go out on a limb and play their track Rasputin, both because I like it and so I can play a snippett of the original song it's based on. It's a long way from the Boney M version.

Dee Adams is a singer-songwriter that has been compared to Bonnie Raitt, Edie Brickell, Jonatha Brooke, and Sheryl Crow

We met with Dee on several occasions, first at Merlin's, then at The Brewhaus Cafe in Lockport, to record, as well as several chance meetings all over Buffalo.

She was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2002 Songs Inspired by Literature songwriting contest for the song "Pennsylvania." Inspired by Orson Scott Card's "Songmaster"

I met with McCarthizm at Club Infinity on January 20th, during the Bring It Back To Life CD Release Party. Recordings done then didn't turn out very well, so there are only a few short pieces of songs near the end of the podcast from the event. I was invited by Sam to come hear the Seldom Herd performers at their weekly session. They play at Lock City Cafe, a little sandwich & coffee shop within steps of the historic Erie Canal Locks.

That night, there were six talented performers there and every one was worth the trip. The Seldom Herd group has held full recitals as well with CDs recorded and released featuring the members. Another show is planned in Lockport on May 13th at the Palace Theater.

The Feast

I was fortunate to have the band invite me to one of their practices. We chatted for awhile about the band and their projects, then I recorded a couple songs from their practice.I would have liked to stay longer, but I had to get in to work, so we had a little over an hour to work. Despite that, I think it turned out well.

I split the interview into four parts, sort of one topic per part, roughly.
